Sergio Would Have Been Just Fine in The Age of Stymies
Of course, stymies have been written out of the golf rulebook since 1952. Still, when the greens at the Wells Fargo looked worse than Lindsay Lohan after waking up in her own vomit, you do what you gotta do.
I know there was some discussion in the blogosphere about whether pros pulling out due to the greens was a sign of being spoiled. I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt on this one. Given the speed of the modern green and their amazing ability to get the ball close from almost any distance, I don't know that I would want to risk screwing up a finely tuned putting stroke to play on those greens.
