Didn't like what I had to say; maybe you can't handle the truth.

  2. but on the subject of competing, its like banning the good kid (toyota) at the little league games while shoveling more ice cream in the fat kid(GM, ford, etc.) to make him feel better about not being able to beat the good kid (toyota).

  3. From another antitrust lawyer . . .

Unfortunateyl, your friend is way off base on facts and inferences. First, Bill Kovacic, not Tom Rausch, is the Chairman of the FTC, and Bill is very much a moderate and has a record of deference to the business community. Second, the FTC would not have the "ultimate" authority to decide playoff matters as its decisions are reviewed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Finally - and most importantly - there is absolutely no reason to think that the FTC could or would delve into structuring the specifics or the mechanics of a playoff system under the Barton bill. As the bill is worded (as far as I understand it), a sec. 5 violation would occur only if a non-playoff winner were being touted as a "national champion." I suppose that a very paranoid observer could worry that the FTC would then feel compelled to define precisely what it would envision as the perfect playoff - and I won't deny that it is theoretically possible - but it is very much unlikely. More likely, the FTC would hear its first challenge to the system and would decide that, imperfect though the chosen system might be, it is still a "playoff" and the FTC's authority to declare the practice unfair and deceptive is thus lacking. I doubt very much that it will dive into the task of trying to create the "perfect" playoff.

  4. Czabe, I think most fans can see there has been a philosophical change in team building since Lil' Dan has taken the reigns. The question is, "Why does he continue to go down this path when it clearly leads to nowhere?" Problem is, it does go somewhere, just not where the fans want it.
Contrary to popular belief, the best and highest franchise value is not created by winning championships. It's created by marketability. More specifically, it's about acquiring well established, high priced, outspoken free agents that create excitement, sell merchandise and generate enough outrageous headlines that keep the team relevant between Sundays. Win enough to be competitive and offer hope for next year and it's a recipe for financial success.

  5. Fantastic article, and I agree 100%. I love my Skins and have rooted for them my entire life. But there was a part of me, after they went down 17-0, that hoped they were going to lose 73-0. This team just doesn't DESERVE to win, and they got what they deserved yesterday when they came in totally unprepared to face the fierce 1-11-1 Cincinnati Bengals.

If I can't have my franchise be a perennial Super Bowl threat, then at least give me some entertainment and talk show fodder. Turn WTEM into WTMZ... blow the whole thing up so I can just sit back and enjoy the press backlash, whiny players, idiotic radio callers, etc.

Because at this point, not taking anything seriously is the only way I can enjoy being a Redskins fan. If you're not laughing, you're not paying attention.

  6. Czabe,

Get with the program. There is nothing wrong with the Skins. Mr. Snyder and Cerrato are not the issue. The issue is you fans that do not appreciate a good product. This is a rebuilding year - the West Coast offense is being installed. Be patient.

I believe Mr. Snyder knows what’s best for this team. He’s bright, ambitious and has an eye for talent. He has friends like Tom Cruise who can vouch for this credibility.

You like all the fans will soon realize Mr. Synder’s genius. Until then, do not criticize our starts. Portis, Moss, Taylor and others are worth the money! Just remember, ticket prices will go up. And I, the dedicated fan will pay.

    Cordially,

A Redskin Fan who drank too much KoolAid.

  11. The answer to the delay of game fix is a buzzer. No, not one for all to hear, just the official. The official wears an earpiece and when the play clock hits zero the buzzer goes off in his ear. This seems like such a simple thing to fix, yet it seems as though they miss about 1 of these calls per game but doesn't become an issue until it effects a playoff game.

  12. Hey Steve...

While I don't necesarily agree with you about Joe Buck, I can recommend a a good, jacked up play by play guy for you. Unfortunately, he no longer calls football for Fox. He is Matt Vasgersian.

Vasgersian used to do the play by play for my Milwaukee Brewers a few years back, and the way he'd get pumped up on a home run call or a close call anywhere else on the field was fantastic. And he rarely used the same "schtick" when something happened. In other words, his home run calls were rarely repeated. The guy was always thinking on his feet and coming up with ways to keep things fresh.

He was hired away by the Padres after a few years, where I believe he was subsequently "discovered" by the brass at Fox to be a fill in guy on second level baseball games and also to do some NFL games.

Now he is the in studio guy for the brand new MLB Network, baseball's answer to NFLN. Because he'll be an in studio guy, I suspect that he won't get as charged up during highlights like he did covering actual games, but hopefully I'm wrong.

You might want to try YouTube to see if you can find some classic Vasgersian game calls. If you find any, PLEASE post them on your site. I think you and your fans will both appreciate this somewhat unknown talent.

  13. Czabe,

Regarding the coin flip. Back in the day, the Niners LOVED to have the ball first, no matter the situation. When the offense was running on all cylinders, they were almost guaranteed to be up 7-0 before the other team even touched the ball. That kind of "you can't stop us" march often left the opponent demoralized and the game would effectively be over 8 minutes into it.
