Happy Rick Monday, Monday: 25th Anniversary Edition!

Hey look, bongheads! Tommy Lasorda doesn't schedule batting practice in the middle of your hackeysack games, so make your political protests on your own time, in your own place!

The only thing I truly regret about this epic baseball moment, is that Monday and several other Dodgers didn't gang tackle these losers, and literally choke them out with "Ol' Glory" right in the outfield!

Oh well. Next time.

  1. What a great moment. I had a vague recall of it because I was in high school then, and there were no 24 hour news channels.

    Thanks Rick Monday.

Czabe-please see if you can find out what happened to the stoner losers who tried to burn the flag, and what they're doing now.

I suspect they're in a high level position in the Obama administration. Or in prison.

  2. Steve,

Check your dates - it was 35 years ago.

  3. The one guy is so stoned he's still leaning in to light the flag and Rick is about 10 yards away. The sad thing is you have to wonder if a player would react the same way today if the same thing happened.

  4. Great post! Thanks for posting this. BTW, Monday was a Cub at this time, not a Dodger. This game was played at Wrigley, I believe. It was Dodgers at Cubs.

  5. While I do disagree with the protesters and am glad Monday did this. I believe it's worth noting if we politicize the sport by singing the anthem at the beginning of games and have flags everywhere, then we'll undoubtedly get political responses. Both from the proud and the stupid.

  6. It was 35 years ago. The game was at Dodger Stadium, and Rick Monday was a member of the Cubs.

  7. Thank you once again Rick Monday. One question perplexes me. I have always wondered if these two stoners are related to the two hippies in Atlanta who trotted around second base with Hank Aaron.

  8. It is a father and his 11 year old son. He was protesting his wife's institutionalization or as he put it 'imprisonment' at a mental health facility. Not sure how this gets his point across... I hate hippies as much as the next person, but in this case, it was a just a deranged man and his son.
