Wussification of Little League

Nice rule to allow a "fake" intentional walk. Why not just have fake trips to Shakeys afterward. Sheesh.

  1. isnt part of the game the risk of throwing a wild pitch.... or maybe one of the little speedsters on base would try to steal with the slow delivery. This is pathetic

  2. It is because LL enforces pitch count limits now. Why waste 4 out 75 pitches when they'll let you fake it?

  3. make them waste the pitch count, if they want to intentionally walk a LITTLE LEAGUER then they should at least have to burn up their pitch count on it.

  4. Just bean 'em. There, take your base, wuss.

  5. The Little League games have been horrendous. There is a talent drain from LL to Cal Ripken and to the other spring sport, lacrosse. I watched part of a game between Iowa and Nebraska that was embarrassingly bad. The only reason that I knew it was supposed to be baseball was the uniforms and equipment.

  6. Guys, little league baseball has always been terrible. Its shameful to play against fat kids with 200' field dimensions with rocket launcher bats. Just pure boredom & silliness. Baseball is a great game at the higher levels.

Czabe, the ultimate 'This might be dumb question, but...' is: When did LL become such a TV draw? Damn it, ESPN. I'm stuck in a hotel on the road. Can't you broadcast some NFL team yearbooks instead of Xanaxed-out chunky LL mom?

  7. gotta eliminate the chance of another "Kelly Leak moment".

I got a Harley-Davidson. Does that turn you on? Harley-Davidson?

  8. Travel league bb is killing LL. Our local league doesn't even play games on Sat to accommodate all the kids that play travel league. Otherwise none of them would play LL at all. It is a prevalent problem coast to coast. LL is in the process of being completely destroyed.

  9. If I'm not really throwing a ball, as the catcher, I'd try to catch those amazing pitches in my mouth as if I were Snoopy.

  10. The rule isn't that you don't have to throw a pitch to intentionally walk someone.

The deal is, since you are not allowed to 'lead off' base in little league thus meaning no 'pick offs', there is no such thing as a 'balk to advance the runner'. The penalty for a balk is a 'ball' issued to the batter. So therefore, if you just balk 4 times, the batter is walked without having to throw a pitch. It's a loophole, I know. But like a previous comment said, the coaches take advantage of this loophole in order to avoid using up their pitcher's 'pitch count'.

  11. Forcing pitches for an intentional walk is akin to requiring the PAT in football.

If you like the PAT then shut up about requiring pitches for an intentional walk.

  12. This rule was in effect in PA high school baseball back in the mid 90s. I've always found the forcing of a pitcher to throw those pitches an utter waste of time. The previous commenter stole a little of my thunder anyway, but this is completely opposite with your feelings of the extra point, another meaningless play.

The NFL should adopt the old WFL rule: TD is 7 points and the team had to go for what was called the "action point" where they either pass or run for it.
