Not a big deal, but stuff like this bugs the crap out of me. I went to the Nationals website specifically to get the "official" attendance of the Randy Johnson 300 game.
Here.
Look.
Where the hell is it?
I see on the bottom the "Box score official statistics approved by Major League Baseball Office of the Commissioner."
But not the usual A: 14,567 right below Umpires:
Crap. Hmmmmphhhh! I don't like it.
It's because Randy Johnson's career win total exceeded the fans in the stands yesterday.
ReplyDeleteIt's actually even better. The attendance is NOWHERE. Not ESPN.com, not MLB.com... and every other box score included an attendance... "Mr. Selig, please call your office."
ReplyDeleteWhen 2500 people show up to view history, you know you have a sh!tty ballclub...
ReplyDeleteDC fans probably wouldn't show up even if J. D. Rockefeller was throwing coins from a zeppelin...
From www.bizofbaseball.com:
ReplyDeleteThe Nationals had a paid attendance of 16,787 for both games.
Love this pic of the stands: http://graneyandthepig.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/randyjohnson3000crowd.jpg?w=450&h=337
That 16,787 is only counted once in the attendance figures. Doubleheaders are considered one date on the schedule.
ReplyDeleteJohnson won #300 in the first game. Game one boxscores do not have the attendance. The attendance for the doubleheader is found in the boxscore for the second game.
If this had been a day-night doubleheader, then there would have been an attendance for both games.
