Matt Holliday Is A Dirty Little Bitch

Okay, so last night Holliday takes out Marco Scutaro on a really hard, really borderline dirty, waaayyy over the bag "slide."

At first, I thought: "Okay, borderline. Cheap. But not riot inducing dirty."

Then people started to fill me in on Holliday's "rep" so to speak.

Wow.

There's lots of evidence out there, and it's not good.

The Giants may not get revenge by drilling him THIS series - who knows what kind of ejections or suspensions might come down by Uncle Bud and the League Office? But I bet sometime next spring, ol' Matt Holliday better "watch his lips" when he faces the Giants.

  3. I have never been a big fan of beaning a guy, even if some type of retaliation is in order. Its just too dangerous.

What is to prevent the fielder being slid into from accidently on purpose stepping on the guy sliding into him, or accidently on purpose falling down on to the guy sliding into him and landing an elbow to the face.

  4. I'm a huge baseball fan Joe, but admittedly, this is part of a larger problem within the game: Too many "unwritten rules" with vast and inconsistent interpretations and enforcement. It leads to this Wild West environment of retaliation and vigilante bounty hunters when grown men get their panties all in a wad.

Also, don't underestimate the power of the calendar. That double play break up happened on October 15, under the microscope of the playoffs. You can bet your ass that if the exact same play happens on June 15, it's not making a headline appearance on Czabe's blog.

  5. scott rolen used to do the same thing (playing hard) going into 2nd base and i didn't hear any of this crap said about him. look at those photos again. is he out of the baseline? did the umpires rule he interfered illegally? no and no. if the giants have a problem w/holiday or the cardinals in general then man up. czabe i'm a fan, but i think you're letting your emotions get to you on this one.

  6. Some of the photos posted don't necessarily look dirty, I always thought that if you are within reach of the bag you're ok. However, sliding/barrel rolling significantly past the bag into a guy's knee is dirty... plain and simple.

  7. Holliday is playing hard nose Punk Ass Cardinal Baseball which means winning at all costs. LaRussa was the biggest whiner when he managed and ignored steriods in Oakland. Oops, yes Marky Mark cried and said "I did'em!"

Personal favorite is to hear Fox Rooting announcers discussing the slide. Oh dear ladies your skirt is over your head. Both gents have outlived their time on baseball broadcasts.

Now, Vogelsong should've knocked down on the next AB. Period. Cards fans are always crying about repsect and we are the bestest little fans in the Midwest, who cares! They are winning because their team does all the things other teams failed to do during the playoffs the last 2 years.

I am Phillies fan and hate the Cards since 1975.

  8. One "misdirected" relay throw to first that instead finds Holliday's forehead will end his takeout sliding once and for all. Taking out a double play and ending a player's career is the reason Ty Cobb was vilified.

  9. The play vs the Cubs had him STARTING his slide into Castro's ankle...

  10. Nothing like a reference to someone born in the 1800s to make a relevant point to a play in 2012.

I'm sure Cobb's vilification had nothing to do with him being an ardent racist, his abuse of women, or his many other fine qualities, but way to stay on topic.

You know, to make a point that's actually relevant here, so long as Leo doesn't mind, this is why umpires allow middle infielders to get away with the "neighborhood play" when attempting to turn a double play. As long as you're reasonably in the vicinity, you don't have to plant and pivot your leg right at the bag, thus giving you a much better chance of dodging the runner who is barreling into second base.

  11. Boiler, So the rules can just be "adjusted" as seem fit. Thank God that they were written...well IN THE 1800'S SO PERHAPS THEY ARE NOT RELEVANT EITHER!! I was referring to his baseball vilification. Was not the entire baseball hierarchy racist and sexist?

  12. No one is vilified for a single overly aggressive play, however drastic the outcome may be. Being viewed as a villain is the result of proving oneself time and again to be a bad person in general.

  13. Is this the first time for this issue with him?
Holliday is a bitch and a goon, "the result of proving oneself time and again".

  14. OK, not defending the guy, but what is the difference between the "take out" slide at second and barreling over a catcher at home? Both are dirty plays in my opinion, but you never hear any bitching about the play at home.

  15. I thought that is one of the reasons catchers wore protective equipment. They also place themselves into the defensive position that instigates contact whereas a fielder is constantly trying to avoid it...

  16. Fuck Matt Holiday, his bullshit style of play deserves him to be banned from the league. FYI morons, the slide into Castro was illegal by the MLB rules. He couldn't have touched the base even if he 8 foot arms. Go suck another umpires dick Matt, its the only reason you don't get called for interference.
