Tell The Knicks, Akron Just Pwnd You!

So they held "Lebron Appreciation Day" in Akron this weekend. And the King himself, showed up to say thanks.

Sorta.

Late by over an hour, which for a modern pro athlete is basically "on-time", The King reminded people of all the "great things" he's done so far in his career (what?) and promised to keep doing great things "for" the city that he says is "home."

The fact that many fans in attendance actually said delusional crap like this - "There's no way he can leave," Ken Metz, a 19-year-old from Parma, Ohio, said as he surveyed the crowd. "It's all here for him. He built his empire here."

Yeah, well that "empire" is going to play for the Knicks next year. Book it. It's about as predictable as a Three's Company plotline. (What, Jack's Tripper's NOT gay! Shhhhh! Don't tell Mr. Roper!)

But my favorite part of LeBron Day, is the somewhat professional looking website, which apparently GAVE THE WEBMASTER THE DAY OFF right after the event!

I mean, come on! You can't post photos of LeBron showing up late, bragging about his non-accomplishments a full 24 hours after it happens?

"Come back later?"

Get bent, LebronDay.com organizers! This story has a shelf-life shorter than a can of tuna on the back

  2. Czabe,

Where's the love for the small town effort? As a resident of WI I know that this kind of sappy stuff is all we can really offer our sports teams. You know that if it wasnt for the ownership structure, the Packers would be playing in LA by now. While the website thing was a little hokey, this took some serious time and effort to pull off, not like NY who simply relies on good restaurants, hot chicks and big buildings to entice people (which really require 0 effort from fans). So please show some respect for the "little people" and keep your East Coastie hatin' for the likes of Dallas. OK?

  3. Oh man, c'mon Czabe don't hit "Enter" so fast. I like your analogies. "This story has a shelf-life shorter than a can of tuna on the back"...of What? It sounded like it was going to be a good one.
Anyway, props to Akron but I fear you're right. Shiny things attract 99.9% of these athletes, so what can you do?

  6. I'll get this right at some point...

This latest blog entry ends like the Sopranos finale. Are we supposed to speculate what comes next? Maybe it's a cute reference to how quick the shelf life of the story is? So quick that the thought cannot be finished in time? The world may never know.

  7. so its ok for all these other cities to suck up to lebron, trade players.... hell season in an attempt to sign him but cleveland (or akron) do something and somehow thats wrong? i think i know why i hate ports media and why they are ruining sports. czab you are as bad as the 4 letter on this one.

p.s. if lebron goes to chicago he'll always be known for needing rose or that other chick forward/center. he needs to be somewhere where he is the only man like kobe is. why do you think kobe and shaq couldn't play together... they both needed to be the man and so does lebron. ny, lee, bosh and lebron may give him some love but it wont always be about him.
