"This Thing of Ours..."

I don't care what anyone says, The Sopranos was and remains the single greatest television show in the history of television.

And don't call it HBO. Or cable. Or complain that networks aren't allowed by the FCC to do this kind of thing.

The broadcast networks have proven to be penny smothering cowards of the highest order. It's why the landscape is now left to nothing but CSI spin-offs and "reality" shows making stars out of complete nobodies.

Long live David Chase and the Sopranos.

  1. The Wire blows the Sopranos out of water! No contest.

  2. I agree with Steven about 'The Wire'. Also, 'Breaking Bad' is an excellent show as well. I highly suggest both

  3. Hands down The Wire. Two of the most classic scenes in TV history are from that show:

Investigators recreate a murder scene using only one word (F***): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlZGguSrp18

    1. Best scene in The Wire is the last scene between Avon & Stringer Bell when they have both betrayed the other and neither knows it.

  4. Deadwood was the greatest show ever on TV!

  5. HBO runs The Sopranos every night at 8 & 11pm and within the past two weeks started with episode 1. I put this on my DVR and watch 2-3 in a row during the week. You forget how good this show was and being able to watch characters from the beginning without months or year long breaks makes it even better. Watching Tony rise to power, Janice manipulating Livia and Richie, Silvio and Paulie doing their thing...nothing on TV now compares.

While I think that The Wire was a better show, the seasons did not have the same continuity that you get with The Sopranos.

  6. No contest that The Wire blows the Sopranos out of the water? Child, please. There is no Wire without The Sopranos paving the way. Granted, The Sopranos went downhill quickly after season 3 but season 2 and 5 of The Wire were weak as well. Both are great shows but early Sopranos owns.

    1) Sopranos (first 3 seasons)
    2) The Wire
    3) Game of Thrones
    4) The Shield
    5) Deadwood
    6) Oz
    7) Justified
    8) Boardwalk Empire

  9. Game of Thrones is, hands down, the best thing ever put on Television. Nothing else even compares to it.

  10. Spongebob Squarepants is the greatest show ever televised. Hands down. Nothing else compares. End of discussion. Period.

  11. If it's "edgy," hopelessly convoluted and glorifies criminality or violence, some dumbass will maintain it's the greatest thing ever.

Now THAT is the end of the discussion.

  15. I'm with you, Czabe. The Sopranos is the best TV drama ever. I just watched the entire series again on HBO over the past few months. Never gets old. I'm still holding out hope for a movie. In all of the carnage of the last few episodes, they still kept all of the major players alive (Tony, his family, Paulie and Sil, even though Sil was in a coma). A Sopranos theatrical movie would be epic.

I watched all 5 seasons of Breaking Bad on Netflix over the winter. That's a great show too. Looking forward to the finale this Summer. I need to checkout The Wire.

  16. The Sopranos is an excellent show, but at times WAY too talky. Here is my top 5:

    1) The Wire
    2) The Shield
    3) Breaking Bad
    4) The Sopranos
    5) Dexter

  17. Seriously? No love at all for "American Idol"

I mean it's just so ... genuine. Yeah ... genuine. That's the perfect word to describe it.

And it doesn't at all make me want to punch myself in the ear.

The shows you guys have mentioned are good and all, but nothing really comapares to the high brow musical insights of Randy Jackson, .... dog.
