Jim Harbaugh PWNS The Potus on Merits of Football

So our Dear Leader, the Teleprompter King, opined that he might have mythical reservations about his mythical son playing some level of mythical tackle football, because of course, the sport is so "dangerous."

Enough, already.

It's about damn time more people started to stick up for the virtues of this awesome game - especially down the youth level where simple and important life values such as perseverance are taught - in light of the recent drumbeat of Oprah-cized hand wringing over "safety" and such.

What better spokesman than Jim Harbaugh, who did not flinch when it came to responding to a reporter's query about Our Dear Leader's concerns....

“If President Obama feels that way, then there will be a little less competition for Jack Harbaugh when he gets older,” Harbaugh said, prompting laughter. ”That’s the first thing that jumps into my mind, if other parents are thinking that way.”

Boom, roasted.

So just on a lark, I decided to see if there were any good pics on the intertubes of POTUS throwing a football. Or maybe some file footage.

Um, not really.

The most common pic is the one above. Where he is clearly in a pose, not in actual motion while throwing a football.

How can you tell?

Notice the eyes, gazing to the heavens. The very place from where he descended.

Nice form, Barry.

Mike Mayock doesn't think much of your downfield awareness or "eye level" when the pocket gets "muddy" but you look good just standing there.

And for those that don't know the term "PWND", well here's your primer.

  1. Let's see. Since you love football and its "vitues", anyone who opposes your view point is a dick.

I remember you recommending a version of flag football to avoid the hits, not so long ago.

You are a hypocrite and now your new darling is Jim Harbaugh. Anything and everything he says you lap it up like you know what.

  2. "PWND" or not, I think his observation was a little less "general football" focused but more related to a more fascinating discussion. College and lower levels don't have nearly the advocacy that the NFL player union has. So either outcomes trickle down from the NFL, or college and lower players are far more vulnerable to injury and lack of assistance in recovery from injury. It raises the issue of what legal protections exist for players from college level, down. How does advocacy work for college, where very little is publicly discussed? What happens if lawsuits develop at levels below the NFL? I agree, it likely will create less competition for the Harbaugh son. But I believe (but I could be wrong) I recall you saying something very similar on your local show: will the day come that more parents decide "no" to football, and will that eventually water down the college and pro talent pool? I think so (in my opinion).

  3. Eye level? He's checking himself out on the jumbotron. Wouldn't you?

  4. Actually ....

unless they thought ahead to pin his neck tie to his side to simulate motion then he is, in fact, actually throwing that football.

That being said ... he doesn't care about this subject at all.

He is just jumping on the band wagon of a popular conversation right now.
    Nothing more, nothing less.

  5. Obama throws like the dad in the VW commercial.

  6. Why are there so many Obamabots in the comments sections of sports blogs? How can anyone who relishes sport also be a fan of the man whose very philosophy is the antithesis of competition?

  7. He throws like a girl, and they can't very well have that since the backlash after throwing out the first pitch at the all-star game. So they take a still that looks like he is actually throwing a ball to make him look like he's athletic. At least he isn't decked out in mom jeans in the photo above.

  8. Sorry Czabe, but the joke here will ultimately be on your boy, Jimmy Hard-Paw.

By the time little Jack Harbaugh is of any age of significance, the notion of genuine competition will be nothing more than a relic of history replaced by the predetermined outcomes of equal suffering brought forth by the socialist utopia

  9. Boiler Pip- That's if we allow that to happen...instead of complaining about things, pushback for crissakes...

  10. Great ball positioning. Ball pointed skyward at a 90 degree angle to your target. From the Tebow school of QB'ing, I guess.

  11. Czabe, you are such a hater, you can't see his tie going sideways. Are you still sure it's a pose? Boom, roasted.

What obvious evidence do you ignore when you're making POLITICAL commentary?

You're so blinded by your conservative politics that you're making crap up about a picture of the president throwing a football for crissakes. Let some creep back into your thinking.

    1. ummm BALANCE let some balance creep back into your thinking. Seeing POTUS lambasted makes it hard to type.

    2. I know it's difficult to hear/read the opinions of someone not madly in love with Barack Hussein Obama. Go watch ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, or read the NYT opinion page. That's more your speed.

    3. I'm a Republican jackass. Just pointing out Czabe isn't objective about Obama. But nice knee-jerk!

  12. Reaching on this one. You're at your best when you stick to sports and leave politics out of it.

    2. Yes, by all means, if you don't agree with everything, don't post. Good point.

  13. Yet another Neanderthal post from the parent of--two girls. As the parent of an actual college football player, a 6'4" 310-pound former all-State HS player in Wisconsin now playing on the OL in college, I can tell you it scares the bejesus out of me. Not because he's a pansy, not because I'm a pansy, but because of the considerable body of evidence (none of which involves stupid dick-waving grunts about "manhood" and the demise of liberal democracy) that my son is spending irretrievable parts of his one and only brain in a game that he'll never play again after he turns 22. Repeat: scares the piss out of me. But then I'm sure that forward-thinkers like Czaban will be there to care for my son when, after having provided cheap, Saturday-afternoon thrills for the masses for 4 years, his Swiss-cheese brain can no longer control his temper, his urges, or his bowels.

  14. Give me the name and address of the individual holding the gun to your son's head, forcing him to play football. I'll be sure to call the cops and send them there right away to put a stop to it immediately, so he can walk free from his involuntary participation in the game

  15. Nobody said anything about a gun, asshole. He plays the game because he loves to play the game--he's more of an athlete and competitor than any of you armchair limpdicks. The point--lost on you, obviously, since it involved several multisyllabic words--is that it's a dangerous game, perhaps one that (under current rules) cannot be made tolerably free of endemic head injury, and thus one that any parent worth a sh*t (which excludes knuckle-draggers like you, chest-thumbers like Czaban) would think twice about before letting his son play. Get a clue, fool.
